It’s not too late to save the planet’s ecosystem!

Our definition of home is only limited to the four walls bordering us. Our understanding of home is myopic. Nature has been truly selfless and ever offering without seeking a penny of attention from this ungrateful species. The species gifted with the highest evolutionary skills on this planet. Who was expected to guard what was & would have been always his.The species expected to make more of what was offered. The species that was to flourish and sustain. Alas! The limit of human wants & the boundless stretch of their self-centered pursuit is pushing them towards the end sooner than expected.

We have forgotten to look back from where we started. We no longer feel the excruciating pain the ecosystem experiences carrying the weight of our superficial homes made of brick and mortar, the agony of losing it’s other children to the grandest one or the so-called guardians. The bouts of exasperation when it can’t take it anymore aren’t enough to warn you of your handicapped senses. A blind with vision and a deaf with hearing ability. Sad indeed.

This years global figures are dismal.10 million hectares of forest cut down or burned, more than 44 billion tons of resources extracted from earth already, one hundred four thousand nine hundred nineteen species gone extinct so far, more than 1 billion tons of waste & 8 million tons of plastic dumped into the ocean, only 68.47% of coral reef left now. Every mother that is breast-feeding is passing a man-made chemical to their child.

We have reached a point where the clock is ticking and change now looks like an impossible and futile act considering the layers of life we have allowed destruction to conquer. It looks like a new way of living or so to say surviving. What was once free is now sold for a premium. Salubrious surrounding, healthy air, rejuvenation of the mind and body. In short we pay to be with nature. What kind of growth is this? Indeed a sorry state of affair. All the attempt stops at one question – What difference can one person make?

And then you surrender!

Capitulate to the self-created force of mass scale destruction by our own hands. Everyday we fail to stop this cycle of annihilation we started.

You can make a difference when you truly want to. The results of your attempt to resurrect will be as silent as the attempts to destroy the biodiversity but you need to keep at it. Begin by a personal transformation. Don’t limit your meetings with nature to weekends. Look into your daily lives. Every destruction that is happening around you requires a key to unlock the havoc and that key is your “permission”. Now you know where to begin! Say no to unhealthy food, say no to toxic chemicals, save daily consumption of water, print a little less, cook everyday and say no to preserved foods, drive when it is imperative, try minimalist living. Don’t get lured by the spell of convenience. Convenience is illimitable. Every little act each day can make a difference.

Actions against global warming, extinct species, melting glaciers, polluted rivers, nitrogen emissions, dying rain forests has narrowed down to discussion at forums where an insignificant population of conscious minds are struggling to awaken and inspire you. The science of maintaining balance ingrained in us since birth has been forgotten. Everything in the books that was once. Conserving the diversity was kindergarten learning. I am so scared to see this chapter of our own perishing identity from this earth being written with our hands. All it requires is a resolute decision to reconnect, remember and get back to our roots. It’s that simple!

Don’t forget turning around things is difficult but not impossible.

A resolution to give up the use of plastic bags may sound inconsequential now but would make a difference in the long run, a small group activity of cleaning the rivers might seem like a foolish weekend activity but might turn into a revolution, a silent act of saving daily consumption of water might help quench the thirst of at least one person out of the 3 billion people globally in need of fresh water now, planting a tree as a part of the corporate social responsibility might be a chore but is step towards managing massive soil erosion. Every act towards true progress and sustainability matters. Because you are anyways gonna deal with it in the end but the only difference would be you running out of time.

Every tiny act has multiple implications on the nature cycle. So, don’t silence those disturbing thoughts, don’t limit your inspiration to change things to a comment on social media. It requires more than that to resurrect. Carry forward those momentary clips of consciousness and motivation when you understood how important it is to act because every little and seemingly insignificant effort is a shield against the progressive destruction happening every millisecond.

Remember. . .

“If you act in the now, you get to live in the tomorrow”
